Matadors to Play For Singles And Doubles Titles at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif.—CSUN will be represented in the finals of each of the three singles flights and will go for a title in a doubles flight at the Long Beach State Tournament as play continued Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
In the Black flight, Sasha Turchak will play for the title after winning twice on day two. Turchak defeated Sarah Medik of Long Beach State 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before handing Zoe Olmos of Cal State Fullerton a 6-3, 6-4 defeat in the semis. Turchak will play Grand Canyon's Natasha Puehse in the finals.
The Gold flight championship will feature a pair of Matadors facing off for the title. Vitoria Solis opened her Saturday quarterfinal by defeating Hana Becirovic Novak 6-3. The Long Beach State player tied the match by winning 6-3 in the second. Solis took the match by winning 6-1 in the third.
Solis went to three sets again in the semifinals. She won the opening set against Grand Canyon's Santa Strombach 7-5 before falling 6-4 in the second. Solis advanced to the finals by winning 7-5 in the third set. Solis will face teammate Tallia Harper.
Harper defeated UC Irvine's Haily Huynh 6-3, 6-1 in the quarters. Harper went to three sets against Cal State Fullerton's Kaitlyn Taylor in the semifinals. Harper won the first set 6-4 with Taylor taking the second 6-2. Harper won 6-4 in the third to make her way to the finals.
Sofia Dermenjyan will play for the White flight title. Dermenjyan won the first set against Marlia Nikitash of Cal State Fullerton 6-1. Nikitash tied it up 6-4 in the second. Dermenjyan won in a tiebreaker in the third, defeating Nikitash 7-4 for the win. Dermenjyan will play Long Beach State's Doga Akyurek in the finals.
In the Black doubles flight, Jolene Coetzee and Angela Ho advanced to the finals by earning a 6-4 semifinal victory against Kaytlin Taylor and Diana Yanotoskaya. Coetzee and Ho will face Long Beach State's Sheena Masuda and Rhona Cook in the championship meet.
Solis and Harper lost in the semifinals of the Gold flight doubles as the pair lost 6-3 to Cal State Fullerton's Zoe Olmos and Natalie Duffy. Jasmine Tolmoyan dropped her semifinal match in the White flight in straight sets to Doga Akyurek of Long Beach State.
