CSUN Baseball Announces 53-Game Schedule for 2023

Complete 2023 CSUN Baseball Schedule
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Head coach Eddie Cornejo has released CSUN Baseball's 2023 schedule set to kick off on Friday, Feb. 17. The Matadors will host 28 games at Matador Field this season with non-conference matchups against teams from the Colonial Athletic Association, West Coast Conference, Big East Conference and Mountain West Conference.
On the docket, the Matadors will face off with nine teams that finished last season with winning records including six 30-win squads.Â
"We are excited about this year's schedule," said Cornejo. "We have some quality programs from across the country coming to play us at home and a challenging road series stretch entering conference play. We feel it's a good balance of travel and competitive opportunities for our team."
CSUN opens up the season with nine of the first 10 games played at Matador Field. The Matadors will also play host to an exhibition game with Waseda University from Toyko, Japan on Wednesday, March 1.
The schedule kicks off with a three-game series with Stony Brook at Matador Field from Feb. 17-19. A current member of the CAA, Stony Brook won its third-straight America East regular season championship last season.
CSUN will host San Francisco in a weekend series from Feb. 24-26 and Creighton in another three-game set from March 3-5. The Matadors' first road weekend series is scheduled for Mar. 10-12 at Pacific. In April, CSUN will also travel to Macon, Ga. to square off with a Mercer team that won 40 games last season (Apr. 6-8).
The Matadors have eight midweek games scheduled for the season starting with a road tilt at San Diego State on Feb. 21 while the teams have a return meeting on May 2 in Northridge. CSUN has three single games set against Pepperdine with two at home (Mar. 21 and May 9) and one in Malibu (Mar. 14). Also on tap, CSUN will play San Diego for the first time in 10 seasons as the Matadors host the Toreros on Mar. 28 and make the trip to USD on Apr. 25. The Matadors face USC as well during the month of April at Dedeaux Field (Apr. 18).
Big West play kicks off on March 17 when the Matadors visit UC Davis for the first of three games. CSUN will play its first six conference games on the road as week two of Big West action sends the Matadors to defending league champion UC Santa Barbara (Mar. 24-26). The Matadors open the home portion of the Big West slate against UC Riverside (Mar. 31-Apr. 2).
In league play, CSUN also hosts Cal Poly (Apr. 21-23), Cal State Fullerton (Apr. 28-30), UC Irvine (May 12-14) and Hawai'i (May 19-21) while road series are scheduled against Long Beach State (Apr. 14-16), UC San Diego (May 5-7) and CSU Bakersfield (May 25-27). The NCAA Regionals kick off on June 2.
The Matadors return 17 letterwinners from last season's team as well as a pair of redshirt players. An All-Big West First Team selection, outfielder Andrew Sojka returns after leading the Matadors in hits last season (70) while four other starting position players return. On the pitching side, CSUN returns three hurlers that made eight or more starts including All-Big West Second Team honoree Lucas Braun who posted seven victories.
