Matadors Face Road Test at Fresno State on Wednesday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (2-5) hits the road for the final time in non-conference play on Wednesday against Fresno State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. on the Mountain West Network. Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister have the call in an audio broadcast at GoMatadors.com/Radio.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN led wire-to-wire in a 101-42 victory over Whittier (Division III) on Sunday at Premier America Credit Union Arena to break a five-game skid. The Matadors broke a school Division I record for least amount of points allowed while the 42 points were the fourth-lowest in the team's 65-year history. The 59-point win was also the fifth most in the team's D-1 history (sixth overall).
The Matadors scored the first nine points to start the game and never looked back. CSUN led by 31 points at halftime (49-18) and built as big a lead as 61 points in the contest. On the defensive end, the Matadors held the Poets to 23.8 percent shooting for the game.
Five Matadors scored in double figures led by De'Sean Allen-Eikens who scored 17 points in 19 minutes. Dionte Bostick added 13 points while the trio of Arman Pezeshkian, Cam Slaymaker and Dearon Tucker had 10 apiece. Pezeshkian's 10 points to go with four assists were a career high.
MATADOR HEADLINES
CSUN enters the week in first place in The Big West in lowest turnovers per game (10.6) while the Matadors rank in third in scoring defense (62.7) and rebounds per game (40.0). Nationally, CSUN is ranked 25th in turnovers per game and 33rd in field goal percentage defense (38.2).
Three Matadors are currently in the top-20 in The Big West in scoring as Dionte Bostick ranks in ninth place at 14.3 points per game. Atin Wright comes in 15th place at 12.4 points per game while De'Sean Allen-Eikens is in 20th place (11.4 PPG). Wright also ranks in second place in free throw percentage (87.5). Onyi Eyisi remains in seventh place in the conference in rebounds per game (7.2).
Fidelis Okereke picked up his 47th career block in the Matadors' win over Whittier. The rejection moved Okereke two away from cracking the Matadors' all-time career top-10 list. Currently, Frankie Eteuati (2010-12) occupies 10th place with 49 while Tavrion Dawson (2015-18) is in ninth place with 50. Tre Hale-Edmerson is the program's all-time career block leader at 188.

Fresno State leads CSUN 29-6 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1960. The Bulldogs have won 18 of 21 all-time meetings in Fresno while CSUN has won just once in its Division I era on the road (Nov. 30, 1999). The teams played last season at Fresno State with the Bulldogs coming out on top, 61-43. Behind Terrell Gomez's 31 points, CSUN defeated Fresno State 73-72 at home in Nov. 2019.

The Bulldogs (2-5) snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday with an 80-66 victory at UC Irvine. All five of Fresno State's losses have been by single digits this season. A year ago, the Bulldogs went 23-13 and 8-9 in the Mountain West as the team went on to win The Basketball Classic. Fresno State was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West this season by members of the media. Head coach Justin Hutson is in his fifth season leading Fresno State.
Isaih Moore leads the team in scoring (14.0 PPG) and rebounding (8.7 RPG) while he is shooting at a 57.4 percent clip. Jemarl Baker Jr. is also among the team leaders in scoring at 9.3 points per game. Jordan Campbell tops the team in assists per game (2.6) to go with his 8.6 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs average 61.6 points and hold opponents to 62.9 points.
