NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Baseball's senior outfielder Kai Moody earned his first career Big West Field Player Week award on Monday, the league office announced. Moody had an outstanding series against Pacific this past weekend, hitting .529 and slugging 1.353 in a Matador four-game sweep.
Moody, the Big West's reigning batting champion, had four multiple-hit games against Pacific with seven of his nine hits being extra base hits. He helped lead the CSUN offense which saw the Matadors outscore Pacific 46-16 in the series. He also homered three times in the series and finished with nine RBI, six runs, three doubles, a triple and one stolen base.
He began the series with a 2-for-4 effort in a Matador 8-3 triumph, which would include a seventh-inning two-run home run. A day later, he would come a home run shy of the cycle in game one of a doubleheader as he had three hits and two runs scored in a CSUN 16-2 rout. In two game two of the twin bill, Moody belted a two-run home run and posted two hits in an 8-5 CSUN win.
Moody's highlight of the weekend though came in the series finale where he belted a game-tying grand slam in the third inning, which the Matadors went on to win 14-6.
Originally from San Francisco, Moody is batting .345 with 10 RBI, eight runs scored, four home runs and three doubles thus far to start the season. Moody has also reached base safely and scored at least one run in six-straight games.
Moody is the first Matador to earn a Player of the Week award this season and the first CSUN Field Player of the Week since Jayson Newman on Feb. 24, 2020.
The Matadors hit the road for the start of a 12-game road swing beginning Friday. CSUN opens a three-game series with Stanford at 2 p.m.
