UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - After inclement weather canceled Monday's opening two rounds, the CSUN Men's Golf team carded a team round of (+22) 306 on Tuesday to finish 15th at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
In cold and windy conditions, the Matadors placed 15th among the 23 teams competing as Thomas Burou was the low CSUN player, finishing in a tie for 31st at four-over 75. Boise State carded a team round of three-over 287 to win the team title while the Broncos' Max Charles took home individual medalist honors at two-under 69. Charles was one of just two players in the 120-player field to finish under par.
Burou made a triple bogey on his opening hole before a series of four birdies over his next 13 holes brought him back to two-over with four holes to play. Burou would finish bogey-par-par-bogey to finish the day and tournament at four-over 75 which was good enough to be CSUN's low player for the first time this season.
CSUNÂ SCORES
COACH JIM BRACKEN SAID
"You could tell by the scores that the conditions were tough today. It definitely makes it hard when your hands are cold the entire time but the conditions were the same for everyone; we just made a lot of bogeys and not enough birdies. Hopefully leading the team today will help Thomas' confidence as we get closer to the conference championship."
The Matadors will play one final tournament, the UCSB Intercollegiate at Sandpiper G.C. in Goleta (Apr. 11-12), before the Big West Championship gets underway May 1 at La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta.
