CSUN, which matched conference champion UC Davis with four honorees, has now had 32 golfers earn All-Big West honors since the 2002-03 season.
Senior Blake Brothers repeated as a first-team selection as he followed Felix Mory (2016-18) and Nick Delio (2007-11) as the only CSUN golfers to earn multiple Big West first-team accolades. Despite a series of injuries in his final season, Brothers set a program season record by leading the Matadors with a 71.07 scoring average over 15 rounds. He posted a pair of top-10 finishes, including a second-place at the season opening Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Brothers is now the 13th CSUN golfer to be named first-team All-Big West.
"Blake was such a steady player for us over the last two years," said head coach Jim Bracken. "Even after he got hurt, he was a big part of the program this spring. He was a mentor to the guys and assisted at tournaments. Blake will be a big hole for us to fill next year and we will certainly miss his steady leadership."
Juniors Felix Schrott and Eirik Thomassen each earned second-team honors while Nick Fowlkes capped an impressive first season by being named honorable mention.
Schrott also had a solid first season at CSUN, compiling a 72.41 scoring average over 10 tournaments and 27 rounds. He led the Matadors with a fourth-place finish at last week's Big West Championship, his team-leading third top-10 finish of the season. Thomassen, who ranked third on the team with a 73.12 scoring average, led CSUN with a total of six top-20 finishes in 2022. He tied for second at both the UCSB Collegiate and the Bill Cullum Invitational.
Fowlkes finished the season with a 73.33 scoring average playing in all 12 tournaments and 33 rounds as a freshman. He posted a pair of top-10 finishes this season including a fifth-place showing at the Ka'anapali Classic in November.
"Felix was a great addition to the program," added Bracken. "He's a really good player and although he battled through some injuries in the spring, he will be one of our leaders next year. Eirik is such a steady player and also a great student and hard worker. Nick had a great freshman year, he shot our two lowest rounds of the year and we're looking for even bigger things for him next year as he gets more experience."
This season marked the second time that CSUN had four players named to the All-Big West Team. In 2005-06, Doug Miller, Erik Jarvey, Luis Kim and Amit Nat represented CSUN on the all-conference team.
"These four guys all played for each other this year," said Bracken. "Their scoring averages might have been even better this season if we didn't gave the injuries we had. All the guys worked hard on their individual games and I'm looking forward to big things and I think we're in a good place heading into next season."
