CSUN Opens Play at the San Diego State Fall Classic I

SAN DIEGO—The CSUN women's tennis team opened play at the San Diego State Fall Classic I Friday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Advancing to the semifinals in the Red bracket was Victoria Santibañez Luna who defeated Cal State Fullerton's Diana Yanotoskaya 6-4, 6-2.
In the Black bracket, Vitoria Solis came away with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against UTEP's Paloma Hennicaux to move onto the semifinals. Teammate Emma Moratalla Sanz also made it to the semifinals of the bracket. She defeated Long Beach State's Doga Akyurek 6-2, 6-3
Angela Ho needed three sets to move to the Gray Bracket semifinals. She defeated Thasssane Abrahim of UTEP 7-6 (10-8) in the first set before Abrahim won the second by a 6-3 count. Ho took the match 7-5 in the third set.
Jasmine Tolmoyan defeated Eve Daniels of UTEP in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 as part of the Gray Bracket.
In the Red doubles bracket, the Matador team of Sasha Turchak and Cindy Ung advanced to the semis by defeating Mathilde Tranberg and Justine Dondoway in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-8).
Two CSUN doubles teams earned a spot in the semifinals of the Black bracket. Solis and Yuliia Zhytelna defeated UTEP's Elena Dibattista and Zuzanna Szczepanska 6-4. Ho and Santibañez Luna posted a 6-3 victory over Eve Daniels and Carlotta Mencaglia of UTEP.
PLAYER REACTION
"I played extremely well with the support of my team and coaches," said Ho. "I fought for every point and kept my standards high. I am very proud of the way I performed and couldn't have done it without my team and coaches."
"I feel like I played very well today," said Tolmoyan. I came onto the court relaxed and just started playing my game. I stayed positive throughout the match and played my very best.

The tournament continues Saturday. Doubles play begins at 9 a.m. Singles action gets underway at 10 a.m.
