KAPOLEI, Hawai'i - Freshmen Meghan Paracuelles fired an even-par 72 and is in the top 15 to lead the CSUN women's golf team after day one of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Monday at Kapolei Golf Course.
Paracuelles, who is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Eagle Invitational two weeks ago, had three birdies and three bogeys in round one. Beginning the day on the No. 5 tee, Paracuelles was even through 11 holes before birdies at No. 16 and No. 18 dropped her to 2-under for the round. But bogeys on two of her final four holes left her tied for 12th in the 95-player field.
As a team, the Matadors opened with a team round of 308 which left CSUN 15th in the 16-team field. The Matadors will open Tuesday's round two just four shots out of the top-10. Baylor holds the team lead at 285 while New Mexico State's Angela Garvin is the individual leader at 5-under 67.

COACH MICHELLE WINKLER SAID
"The two things that really hurt us were number 11 and our last three holes. Luckily, we're not out of it yet and are only five shots back of 9th place! We are so focused on regaining momentum tomorrow. We're all so proud of Meghan and Gracie for their performance today. To shoot 72 and 74 in this wind is just unbelievable. They've had a great year so far and are fighting to end the season strong. Tomorrow is a new day."
The Matadors will be paired with Iowa, Utah Valley, and Murray State for the second round which gets underway Tuesday morning beginning at 9 a.m. local time.
