NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---After helping CSUN Men's Basketball to a historic win over UCLA and a 2-0 week, De'Sean Allen-Eikens was named Big West Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league's office.
A graduate forward, Allen-Eikens averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds this past week while shooting 73.7 percent from the floor (14-of-19 shooting). He also made all three of his shots from 3-point range and averaged 30.7 minutes per game.
Allen-Eikens helped propel CSUN to its second-ever win at UCLA in a 76-72 triumph at Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 19. The win also snapped UCLA's 29-game home win streak, which was the nation's longest active streak. Allen-Eikens scored 17 points including 13 in the second half to hold off UCLA down the stretch. He finished 4-of-5 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line. In addition to making key baskets in the closing minutes, Allen-Eikens made a free throw with three seconds to play to seal the four-point win.
He would have another strong performance against defending Big Sky Conference champion Montana State in an 82-70 win on Dec. 22. Pouring in a team-high 23 points, Allen-Eikens made 10-of-14 shots including both 3-point attempts while recording six rebounds and two assists. He did his most damage in the first half, scoring 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Allen-Eikens leads CSUN in scoring at 19.9 points per game, which ranks second-best in The Big West. He is also sixth in the conference in field goal percentage (54.6) and seventh in rebounds per game (6.8).
CSUN begins Big West play on Thursday at Cal Poly with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. The Matadors wrapped up non-conference play with a 9-3 record, the program's best start since the 2012-13 season, and with wins in four-straight games.
