NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Water Polo head coach Matt Warshaw has announced the signing of four to national letters of intent. Joining CSUN for the 2025 campaign will be attackers Mackenzie Wood, Sofia Martinez and Lucie Lapuz along with Hungarian center Abigel Kiss.
"I am proud of the class that coach Mathes and I have signed for the 2024-25 year," said Warshaw. "It fills some immediate needs as well as potential gaps for the future."
Mackenzie Wood | Attacker | Murrieta Valley High School

Originally from Murrieta, Calif., Mackenzie Wood had a standout 2023 season with her hometown Murrieta Valley High School. Wood collected All-CIF Division II honors along with all-league first team honors. She also helped Murrieta Valley to a CIF-Southern Section Division II championship this past season, the team's first in seven years, along with a Southwestern League title. In addition to her time on the water polo team, Wood was a member of the school's swim team.
"Mackenzie Wood is a universal attacker who fits into our system nicely and her ability to see the pool will translate well at the D1 level," said Warshaw.
Sofia Martinez | Attacker | Schurr High School

Sofia Martinez has prepped at Schurr High School where she helped the program advance to the CIF-Southern Section playoff in 2023. A native of Commerce, Calif., Martinez scored 56 goals this past season. She has played club with her hometown Commerce Water Polo Club and gained international experience with the Mexican National Team. Along with her older sister and current Matador Valeria Martinez, Sofia has competed at the Nationales Concade while she most recently participated with the national squad as a member of the pre-selection group for the 2023 Pan American Games.
"Sophia Martinez has an experience level that you can't teach," said Warshaw. "Game situation wise, there won't be much she hasn't seen before from her extensive club career."
Lucie Lapuz | Attacker | Davis High School

Lucie Lapuz, a native of Davis, Calif., has prepped for her hometown Davis High School. Over the past three seasons, Lapuz has helped the Blue Devils win the CIF Sac-Joaqun Section championships. She would tally 60 goals this past season to go with 52 assists in earning All-CIF First Team honors. Lapuz was also a part of the team's deep 2021 run that culminated as runners up in the Division I CIF NorCal Championship playoffs.Â
"Lucie Lapuz is an offensive creator and someone we believe will be able to score goals at the Big West level early in her time at CSUN," said Warshaw.
Abigel Kiss | Center | Eger Water Polo Club

Hailing from Eger, Hungary, Abigel Kiss played at the club level with Eger Water Polo Club at the center position. Kiss spent last year in Germany where she competed in the national championship and scored 31 goals. She previously participated with the women's national team in different age groups in her home country of Hungary. She would graduate high school in 2022.
"Abigel Kiss has the potential to be a dominant player in the Big West and we expect her to be someone that other teams are game planning for on a weekly basis," said Warshaw.
