CSUN Visits UCSD on Saturday Before Hosting UCR on Monday

FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (6-20, 3-12 Big West) returns to action on Saturday with a road test at UC San Diego starting at 7 p.m. on Spectrum SportsNet. The Matadors will then host UC Riverside on Monday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister have the call at GoMatadors.com/Radio for both games.
LAST TIME OUT
It would be a bittersweet night for the Matadors on Wednesday as Atin Wright broke the school's Division I scoring record but CSUN fell to UC Davis 73-62 on the road.
Wright was on fire from the start, making his first four 3-point attempts while he finished the first half with 28 points. The 6-1 guard closed the game 14-of-25 from the field and 7-of-11 from 3-point range. Wright pulled the Matadors to within 61-58 with less than four minutes to go but the Aggies closed the game on a 12-4 run.
De'Sean Allen-Eikens chipped in nine points, five rebounds and three blocks for the Matadors while Elijah Pepper of UC Davis scored 32 points.
MATADOR HEADLINES
Atin Wright's 42-point outburst surpasses the Matadors' Division I scoring record previously held by Mike O'Quinn (1998), Mike Efevberha (2006), Kenny Daniels (2009) and Lamine Diane (2019) who all scored 39 points in a single game. For 56 years, Ollie Carter and Mark Cooley, both standouts during CSUN's Division II days, were the two lone Matadors to record at least 40 points in a game. Carter remains the overall all-time leading scorer in team history with 47 points scored on Feb. 1, 1966, while Cooley's 40 points scored on Feb. 18, 1967 are now the third-most in team history.
Wrigh's 14 made field goals and seven made threes are also new career highs for the sophomore. His seven 3-point field goals made are tied for the third-most in a single game in team history, tying 10 other performances.
On The Big West leaderboard, Wright is sixth in the league in scoring at 14.9 points while the injured Dionte Bostick is 14th at 12.4 points. Wright is first in the conference in free throw percentage (88.7), fourth in 3-point field goals made per game (1.9) and seventh in steals per game (1.3). De'Sean Allen-Eikens checks in 13th in blocks per game (0.7) and 17th in rebounds per game (5.3) to go with his 10.4 points per game. Fidelis Okereke is 13th in blocks per game (0.7) and 19th in rebounds per game (5.2).
SERIES HISTORY
UC San Diego holds a 3-2 edge over CSUN in the all-time series. The Tritons are a perfect 3-0 against the Matadors since joining The Big West in 2020. Last month, UCSD defeated CSUN 65-57 in Northridge.
CSUN leads UC Riverside 46-41 in the all-time head-to-head matchup but the Highlanders have won the last five meetings. UCR knocked off CSUN 65-57 in early January at the SRC Arena. CSUN's last win over UCR came on Feb. 8, 2020, in a 61-59 victory.
SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO
The Tritons are 8-18 overall and 3-11 in The Big West standings after dropping a 76-73 decision to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday. UC San Diego has lost five in a row and has not won since beating the Matadors on Jan. 26. The team has gone 3-9 at LionTree Arena this season. UCSD is still not eligible for the postseason due to the team's ongoing transition to the Division I ranks. Head coach Eric Olen is in his 10th season with the program.
Bryce Pope enters the weekend second in The Big West in points per game (18.2) while he has made 50 shots from 3-point range. Other double digit scorers on the team include Francis Nwaokorie (12.2) and Roddie Anderson III (11.8). Nwaokorie is the team's top rebounder, averaging 6.9 per game. As a team, UCSD is third in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game (7.3).

The Highlanders improved to 17-10 and 10-5 in The Big West standings after knocking off Long Beach State (88-76) on Wednesday. UCR is currently third in the conference but just 1.5 games out of first place. This season, the Highlanders have a 9-7 record away from the SRC Arena. Head coach Mike Magpayo is in his third year leading the Highlander program.
Zyon Pullin is ranked third in The Big West in scoring at 17.9 points per game on 47.2 percent shooting. Flynn Cameron is also averaging in double figures, scoring 12.2 points to go with 3.5 assists and a 41.3 3-point percentage. Other double digit scorers include Lachlan Olbrich (10.9) and Kyle Owens (10.0). Olbrich leads the team in rebounds per game at 6.0. UCR is second in the conference in rebounds per game (37.7) and third in 3-point percentage (36.4).
