NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN closed men's soccer exhibition play on Aug. 19 by playing to a 2-2 tie against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Matador Field.
The Toros opened the scoring with 31 seconds remaining in the first half when Logan Kaufman converted a penalty kick. Bryan Bustamante tied the score at the 62:25 mark when he connected a penalty kick of his own.
Jamar Ricketts put CSUN up by a goal with 1:27 remaining in the second half when he took a Theom Samba cross in front of the Cal State Dominguez Hills box and scored. The night's final goal came 3:57 into a 30-minute third period as Christian Briseno headed in a Zane Baumgardt long pass.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
"You play exhibition games to find out about your team. We learned much about the team, playing two quality opponents in Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Both could easily do well in the Big West Conference and are two fine programs with two of the finest coaches on the West Coast. They showed us what our strengths and weaknesses are. We found something that will work, and I am very thankful to both of our opponents to help us get where we need to be right now.
NOTES
CSUN opens the 2023 regular season on Thursday when the Matadors face Ohio State in the first match of the Wolstein Classic. The kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on Big Ten+.
