
Record-Setting Day as Tanoue, CSUN Finish Strong in Utah

PROVO, Utah - CSUN freshman Nicole Tanoue completed a remarkable collegiate debut on Tuesday as she finished third at 9-under 207 to lead the Matadors to a 14th-place finish at the season opening Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational at Timpanogos Golf Club.
Tanoue, who broke the school single round record with a 7-under 65 on Sunday, went on the break the 19-year old CSUN 54-hole scoring record with a three-round total of 9-under 207. Tanoue broke Beth Allen's program record of 7-under 209 which had stood since 2004. The freshman from Honolulu had three birdies, 12 pars and just three bogeys in an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday.
As a team, the Matadors improved each round of the tournament capped by a 292 in the final round to set a program with a 54-hole score of 880. The previous best was 887 set by the 2014 CSUN squad at the Matador Invitational.
Grand Canyon (837) took home the team title, while Fresno State's Katelyn Lehigh claimed individual medalist honors at 15-under 201.

"We shot 292 today and got better each day which was awesome. Moving forward, we need to prioritize our mental performance. If we sharpen this area of our game, we'll continue to break more records and be competitive in the Big West. This is only the beginning."
CSUN will return to the course in two weeks as the Matadors travel to the East Coast for Boston College's Red Bandanna Intercollegiate which will be held Sept. 25-26 at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Mass.

- Following Tanoue's third-place finish, Kim Turgut fired an even-par 72 for the second time in three rounds. Turgut had five birdies on Tuesday to match her 72 from round one as she tied for 47th at 6-over 222. Her tournament total is a career-best, eight shots better than her previous best of 230.
- Elle Laur posted a final round 78 to tie for 73rd at 11-over 214. Laur posted previous rounds of 79-70, her second round matching her career-low for 18 holes.
- Freshman Meghan Paracuelles had four birdies on Tuesday to finish at 2-under 70. Paracuelles finished with rounds of 80-79-70 to tie for 82nd at 13-over 229.
- Sophomore Gracie Piar rounded out the CSUN scoring as she finished 94th at 21-over 237 following rounds of 79-75-83.
