
CSUN Falls in Straight Sets at Hawai'i

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The CSUN women's volleyball team struggled offensively in dropping a straight-set decision at Hawai'i in a Big West match Sunday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
CSUN (2-11, 0-2 Big West) was led by Perri Starkey, Iye Okolo and Carisa Barron who each had a team-high four kills. Okolo hit .231 on 13 swings while Taylor Hunter added three kills on a team-high .429 hitting.
The Matador offense struggled throughout the match, hitting -.035 as a team while the host Rainbow Wahine hit .402. CSUN did not record a block in the match as the Rainbow Wahine had five. Hawai'i also posted a 32-23 advantage in digs while the serving numbers were fairly even with the hosts posting three aces to CSUN's two.
SET 1: HAWAI'I 25, CSUN 13
After dropping four of the first five points of the night, CSUN rallied back to within 4-3 following a Hawai'i hitting error. A Taylor Orshoff kill kept the Matadors within two (6-4) when the hosts outscored CSUN 7-3 over the next 10 points to open up a 13-7 lead. The Matadors would trail by as many as nine (19-10) before Hawai'i pulled away for the 12-point win.
SET 2: HAWAI'I 25, CSUN 14
A Hawai'i hitting error kept CSUN close early on as the Matadors trailed 9-7. But Hawai'i put together a 6-1 run to take a 15-8 lead into the media timeout. The Matadors would get a pair of kills by Okolo down the stretch but the Rainbow Wahine would again pull away for the 25-14 win.
SET 3: HAWAI'I 25, CSUN 12
After hitting negative the first two sets, the Matadors hit .000 in the final set but Hawai'i would connect at a .536 clip. The Rainbow Wahine scored the first three points and would never trail in the set. An Orshoff kill trimmed a three-point Hawai'i lead down to one (7-6) but outscore the Matadors 8-3 over the next 11 points to take a 15-9 lead into the media timeout. Three straight kills by Amber Igiede extended the lead to 10 (19-9) and the hosts held a comfortable lead throughout the final set.
MATCH NOTES
- Taylor Dunlap and Layla Cederlind each had one ace for the Matadors.
- Paige Sentes led CSUN with six digs while Kelsey Knudsen added five in the loss.
- The Rainbow Wahine extended their current win streak over CSUN to 16 straight while improving to 29-2 in the all-time series.

CSUN returns home to open up a season-long four-match homestand next Friday (Sept. 29) as the Matadors welcome UC Riverside to Premier America Credit Union Arena at 6 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
