CSUN Travels to UC Davis, Hosts Fullerton This Week

FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball (12-3, 3-0) returns to the road this Thursday to face UC Davis at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ before hosting Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Spectrum SportsNet. ABOUT LAST WEEK
CSUN notched its seventh consecutive victory last Saturday with a 76-66 triumph over Hawai'i at Premier America Credit Union Arena. De'Sean Allen-Eikens topped CSUN in scoring with 20 points while Gianni Hunt scored a season-high 16 points and added six rebounds. Keonte Jones also filled up the stat sheet, pouring in 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and four blocks.
Saturday's game would be a tight game throughout as it featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes. CSUN led by a narrow 62-61 score with 4:32 to play before going on a 9-2 run, highlighted by a Hunt 3-pointer and Allen-Eikens drive to the hoop. Hunt would seal the game at the free throw line in the closing moments.
CSUN STREAKING
The Matadors won their seventh game in a row last Saturday, tying a program Division I record set by the 2000-01 team. CSUN's 12-3 start to the year is also tied with the 2007-08 team for the best 15-game start to a season since the program joined the D-1 ranks. CSUN will take a three-game road winning streak to UC Davis this week in hopes of also tying the school's D-1 record for consecutive road wins of four reached by the 1996-97 and 2007-08 squads.
ON THE NATIONAL BOARDS
CSUN enters the week in the top-10 nationally in several categories including three different rebounding categories. The Matadors are fifth in the nation in rebounds per game while they are sixth in rebounding margin (+11.8) and seventh in defensive rebounds per game (30.5). CSUN also check in at ninth in Division I in defensive field goal percentage at 38.2 percent. The team is also up to 16th nationally in fastbreak points (16.5) and 21st in defensive 3-point percentage (28.1).
BIG WEST LEADERBOARDS
CSUN has vaulted to the top of The Big West team rankings in nearly every rebounding category including rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game, rebounding margin and offensive rebounds per game (13.0) along with defensive field goal percentage and defensive 3-point percentage. CSUN is also second in points per game (80.3) and steals per game (8.5). De'Sean Allen-Eikens is third in the league in points per game (19.7) while Dionte Bostick ranks in ninth (16.3). In rebounding, Keonte Jones is in fourth place (7.2) followed by Allen-Eikens in eighth place (5.9). Jones has also moved into a tie for first place in steals per game (2.1) while he is second in blocks per game (1.6).
DE'SEAN EARNS MID-SEASON RECOGNITION
Graduate De'Sean Allen-Eikens was one-of-40 student-athletes named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List on Jan. 10. Allen-Eikens has led the Matadors in scoring throughout the year, averaging 19.4 points per game on 53.5 percent shooting while rebounding 5.9 per game. He has improved his scoring average over eight points from last season while he has increased his field goal percentage and rebounding average. The Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball.

The Aggies hold an 8-7 overall record and 3-1 Big West mark. In last week's action, UC Davis defeated UC Riverside 83-63 before suffering its first conference loss at UC Irvine in overtime 74-71. The Aggies have won five of eight games played at University Credit Union Center this season. Prior to the year, UC Davis was picked to finish fifth in The Big West by the league's head coaches. Elijah Pepper leads The Big West in scoring average at 21.9 points per game and 3-point field goals made per game (3.5). Ty Johnson is also scoring in double figures, posting 15.3 points per game. Niko Rocak is leading the team in rebounding at 4.9 per game. Head coach Jim Les is in his 13th season with the team.
Series History: UC Davis leads CSUN 29-21 in the all-time series with wins in five consecutive games. The Aggies swept the season series last year, winning 73-62 in Davis and 62-54 in Northridge. CSUN has dropped the last 13 games played on the road at UC Davis with the Matadors' last win coming on March 5, 2009.

The Titans come in with an 8-8 overall record and 1-3 league record. Fullerton dropped games last week to UC Irvine (75-67) and UC San Diego (76-58). On the year, the Titans are 3-5 in road games. Last season's Big West runner up, the Titans were picked to finish sixth in the conference by the league's head coaches. Max Jones ranks eighth in The Big West in scoring average (16.5) while DJ Brewton is 10th (15.4). Grayson Carper tops the Titans in rebounds per game at 5.0 to go with scoring 6.6 points. Head coach Dedrique Taylor is in his 11th season at the helm.
Series History: In a series dating back to 1960, the Titans lead the Matadors 51-37 all-time. CSUN though snapped a four-game skid against Cal State Fullerton with a 69-66 win in overtime last season at home. The Matadors have won two of the last three meetings at home in the series.
