CSUN Sets Sights on Busy Weekend at Washington, New Mexico

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field continues its indoor season this weekend with a pair of meets as the Matadors will send student-athletes to the University of Washington and the University of New Mexico for competition. In Seattle, Wash., all events begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Both running and field events begin at 3 p.m. (MT) on Friday in Albuquerque, N.M. while Saturday will kick off with field events at 9:30 a.m. (MT) and running events at 10:30 a.m. (MT)

CSUN opened the 2024 indoor campaign on Jan. 12 at Northern Arizona's Friday Night Ax 'Em Open in Flagstaff, Ariz. The day would be highlighted by two individual victories along a multitude of personal records and all-time top-10 records.
On the men's side, junior Trey Knight shattered the school record in the weight throw with a personal record toss of 72-9, winning the event. Freshman Danielle Irvine would pick up a win on the women's side, recording a long jump with a leap of 18-6.50 in her first career collegiate event.
In total, CSUN had 14 new personal records set at the invite while seven different all-time top-10 marks were reached.
On the women's side, Junior Kaliyah Poston would post the third-best mark in school history in the 60m in the preliminary round with a time of :7:48. Poston finished sixth in the finals in the event with a time of :7:50, which ranked sixth-best in the CSUN record book. Senior Arianna Alexander registered the ninth-best mark in school history in the 60m, posting a time of :7:51 in the prelims to finish in ninth, just missing the cut to the finals.
Poston would also finish second in the 200m, recording a personal-best time of :24.32. That time also cracked the school's top-10, good enough for seventh-place.
On the men's team, sophomore Logan Davis finished third in the 60m with a time of :6.74, which ranked third-best in school history. Junior Gabe Martinez would also post the ninth-best mark at CSUN in the 400m, finishing in second place with a time of :48.36. Another standout at the meet was sophomore Bryson Williams who finished second in the long jump with a new personal record leap of 23-10.25.
KNIGHT EARNS MPSF HONORS
Trey Knight's record-breaking day at the NAU Friday Night Ax 'Em Open on Jan. 12 earned him MPSF Player of the Week honors on Jan. 16. Knight would finish first in the weight throw, beating out a 20-man field while his toss shared the NCAA's top-five mark of that week. Originally from Ridgefield, Wash., Knight did not compete with CSUN in his first season in 2023. His previous PR in the weight throw was a toss of 22.15m (72-8) while with USC.
UP NEXT
CSUN will have one more tune-up before competing in next month's MPSF Indoor Championships. The Matadors travel to the University of Houston to compete in the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9.
