Amaris Smith led the Matadors (8-18, 3-12 Big West) with 18 kills, hitting .206 on 63 swings to go with nine digs. Junior Leah Miller also reached double figures in kills with 12, hitting a robust .407 on 27 attacks along with three blocks (two solo). Iye Okolo and Julia Bazylevych combined for 15 kills with each hitting .263 in the match.
Setter Katie Kolar posted her 15th double-double of the season with 35 assists and 15 digs. Kolar was one of four CSUN players with double digits in digs as Paige Sentes led all players with 26 while Layla Cederlind and Autumn Rojelio each had 12 for CSUN in the loss.
In a match that saw two of the sets in the match decided by two points, the host Aggies hit slightly better than the Matadors (.270-.230) and had five team aces to two for CSUN. Behind the four Matadors in double figures, CSUN posted a 79-69 edge in digs.
SET 1: CSUN 25, UCD 19
A UC Davis hitting error opened up an early four-point lead (10-6) for the Matadors forcing an Aggie timeout. CSUN still led by four at 11-7 when the Aggies rallied behind an 8-3 run to take a 15-14 lead. A kill by Miller followed by a Miller solo stuff put the Matadors back in front to stay and CSUN would outscore the Aggies 7-2 over the final nine points to seal a 25-19 win.
SET 2: UCD 25, CSUN 23
After hitting .286 in set one, the Matadors would hit .357 in the second set but came up two points short. CSUN trimmed a pair of four-point deficits down to two at 12-10 following a UCD service error. An ensuing 6-2 run by Davis opened up an 18-12 lead for the hosts when the Matadors put together a 6-2 run when a Bazylevych kill trimmed the margin to 20-18. After the Aggies extended the lead back to four, a pair of Smith kills cut the lead to one at 23-22 and again at 24-23 before an Aggie kill evened the match at one set apiece.
SET 3: UCD 26, CSUN 24
In another deuce set, one of the nine total sets between the two teams this season were decided by two points, the Aggies overcame a 17-13 CSUN lead midway through the frame. After a host of early ties, the Matadors used consecutive UCD hitting errors to lead by as many as four. A Miller kill kept CSUN in front 19-17 and the Matadors maintained a two-point edge at 21-19 following an Aggie service error. But four straight UCD points erased the lead before a Kolar-Tatiana Turgeon block tied the score at 23-23. The Aggies would claim three of the final four points to take the swing set 26-24.
SET 4: UCD 25, CSUN 14
The final set was all UC Davis as the Aggies limited CSUN to a .108 hitting clip while hitting .366 in a decisive 25-14 win.
