NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN women's volleyball head coach Aquiles Montoya has announced the signings of Layla Moore, Raegan Richardson, and Saniyah Sobers to continue their volleyball career with the Matadors in the fall of 2025.
"The additions we made in our 2025 class will have a long-lasting impact on the future of Matador Women's Volleyball." said Montoya. "They will immediately compete for impact roles on the team in every phase of the game and considering how much we can return from this year it says a lot about their skill. What can't go unnoticed is the great people and students they are as well. These are the type of student-athletes we are striving to keep bringing here to RepTheRidge!"
Moore is a 6-3 middle blocker from Long Beach where she was a first-team All-Moore League selection for the Jackrabbits of Long Beach Poly. As a four-year letterwinner, Moore earned a pair of Most Improved Player awards during her high school career, earning her high school award in 2022 and the Mizuno Long Beach award in 2023-24. She hit .371 with 141 kills and 70 blocks during her senior season while helping the Jackrabbits to league championships in both 2023 and 2024.
Moore also played club volleyball for Surfside (16-1's), Mizuno Rockstar (17-1's), and League One Volleyball (18-1's).
"Layla brings the physicality and athleticism that you need in the Middle to win in the Big West," said Montoya. "Trained by some of the best at both the club and high school levels, I am excited for her to come in and add more size and explosive play to our roster. Layla is a leader through her play and sets the tone with her focus."
Richardson, a 6-0 outside hitter from Gilbert, Ariz., comes to CSUN from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz. A two-sport letterwinner in indoor and beach volleyball for the Huskies, She earned both first-team (2023) and second-team All-Region (2024) and was named District Player of the Year as a senior for coach Sharon Vanis. She amassed over 1,000 kills during her high school career and was a Golden Scholar recipient in the classroom.
"Raegan is a 6-rotation outside hitter that I can't wait to have in the gym," said Montoya. "She will immediately push and compete with our returners as she brings the physicality and skill that you need in a 6-rotation outside. Everyone who knows Raegan falls in love with her, that was apparent with our team as soon as she got on campus."
Sobers, originally from Fontana, Calif., is a 5-6 libero/defensive specialist from Redlands High School. A highly decorated high school libero/outside hitter, Sobers earned Citrus Belt League Most Valuable Player honors as a senior in addition to being named to the Inland Empire All-Star Team and receiving her high school's Outstanding Fall Athlete Superintendent Award. Sobers finished her high school career with 907 kills, 950 digs, and 231 aces and was a three-time first-team all-league honoree (2022-24). She was instrumental in her team winning three straight league championships.
Sobers also played club volleyball for Rancho Volleyball Club and was an Under Armour Next Athlete.
"Saniyah and I have had a strong connection since her sophomore year in high school," said Montoya. "She is what you want to see in a libero with her length, communication, and energy. I doubt there will ever be a time you will see Saniyah outworked and that's why she was one of the most sought-after liberos. I know she is up for the challenge and will gel with our squad immediately."
