WAHINGTON, Utah - Behind top three finishes from freshmen Meghan Paracuelles and Nicole Tanoue, the CSUN women's golf team finished second after the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational concluded Tuesday at Green Spring Golf Course.
Paracuelles, who held the two-round individual lead at 2-under 142, carded a final round 5-over 77 to tie for individual medalist honors. In a scorecard tiebreak, Gonzaga's Chaewon Baek claimed medalist honors, while Paracuelles was named individual runner-up.
She had one birdie in the final round, making the turn at even-par. But three bogeys and one double-bogey on the back nine dropped the CSUN freshman to 5-over on the day and 3-over 219 for the tournament. The finish was Paracuelles' best of the season following her fifth-place finish at the Eagle Invitational last October.
Tanoue finished in a tie for third, which matches her third-place finishes at Timpanagos Invitational and the Eagle Invitational from the fall. Tanoue had a pair of birdies in a final round 4-over 76 to finish with a three-round total of 6-over 222, her third-best 54-hole total of the season.
As a team, the Matadors (910) posted rounds of 299-307-304 to finish seven shots behind Utah Valley (903). The second-place team finish was CSUN's best of the season.
CSUNÂ SCORES
"Congratulations to our freshman, Meghan, for tying for the individual title!  We were so close as team. If we can get rid of those big numbers, I know we win by quite a few shots. Needless to say, I'm hopeful for the future of this program."
CSUN will return to Utah the first week of March to compete in the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook GC in Saint George (Mar. 7-8).
