Romero Earns Preseason All-America Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's senior right-handed pitcher Joshua Romero was named to the 2024 National Collegiete Baseball Writers Preseason All-America Second Team on Tuesday.
A native of Oxnard, Calif., Romero had a record-breaking first season with CSUN in 2023. In his first season as a closer at the Division I level, Romero would complete 13 saves in 13 chances for the Matadors as he broke the school's single-season save record. He finished the year leading The Big West in saves while he was sixth overall in the nation in the category, and just two off the pace of the national leader.
Romero would lead the team in total appearances with 23 as he registered a 3.29 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. The right hander also limited the opposition to a .216 batting average.
In Big West play, Romero was just as effective, posting nine of his 13 saves against conference competition. He would register a 3.31 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of work during the league season.
Following the regular season, Romero was placed on ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region First Team while he also took home All-Big West Second Team accolades.
CSUN opens the 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 when the Matadors take on Utah Valley at Matador Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
