Behind Two Top-10 Finishers, CSUN Takes Sixth at Lady Thunderbird Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Gracie Piar and Kim Turgut each finished in the top-10 to lead the CSUN women's golf team to a sixth place finish at the conclusion of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational Saturday at Sunbrook Golf Course.
Piar and Turgut, who finished seventh and ninth respectively, each carded a final round 3-over 75 on Saturday. Piar, who made par on 12 of her opening 13 holes, had her lone birdie at No. 1 to get to 1-over before finishing 2-over on her final three holes of the day. With a tournament score of 7-over 223, Piar posted her third top-10 finish in six tournaments this season. Turgut had a team-high three birdies in the final round and was 1-under through seven holes. Seven pars and four bogeys over her final 11 holes left her at 8-over 224 for the tournament.
As a team, CSUN followed up rounds of 309-300 with a 306 on Saturday to move up to sixth at 51-over 915. Boise State (894) led from start to finish to claim the team title while Wyoming's Jaden Gonzalez and Boise State's Leia Chung tied for the individual title at even-par 216.

The Matadors will next compete at the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona on Mar. 16-17 at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.

- Following Piar and Turgut, freshman Nicole Tanoue narrowly missed a top-20 finish, tying for 21st at 12-over 228. Tanoue had her lone birdie on her opening hole before finishing 6-over the rest of her round which included 12 pars.
- Fellow freshman Meghan Paracuelles followed up rounds of 82-79 with another round of 7-over 79 on Saturday to finish 57th at 24-over 240.
- After posting rounds of 83-81 on Thursday and Friday, junior Elle Laur was forced to withdraw in Saturday's final round.
