2024 CSUN Men's Soccer Schedule
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN head men's soccer coach Terry Davila has announced the 2024 schedule featuring five NCAA Tournament teams. The Matadors have 17 total matches on the 2024 schedule including eight contests at Matador Soccer Field beginning with the season opener against James Madison.
"I'm very excited about our schedule this season," said Davila. "We have one out of region team on the schedule with James Madison, which went to the Sweet Sixteen, then we play at LMU, an Elite Eight team. There aren't many teams that have that on their schedule, and we're very happy to have them. We have a very competitive schedule that will prepare us for the Big West this season."
Prior to the regular season, the Matadors will compete in three exhibition games, two of which to be played at Matador Soccer Field. CSUN hosts the Master's University on Friday, Aug. 9 to open the exhibition slate followed by a road trip to the University of San Diego on Wednesday, Aug. 14. UCLA comes to Northridge to conclude the exhibition games on Saturday, Aug. 17.
CSUN's 2024 opener is set for Thursday, Aug. 22 against James Madison at Matador Soccer Field before the Matadors make the short trip to LMU on Aug. 25. In last season's final top-25 poll, James Madison was ranked No. 18 after the team's NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance while LMU was ranked No. 11 following its NCAA Quarterfinal run.
The Matadors open September with a home meeting with California on Sunday, Sept. 1 before completing a two-game homestand with Pacific on Sept. 5. Two road tests await beginning on Sept. 11 when CSUN visits reigning WAC tournament champions California Baptist followed by a road trip to UNLV on Sept. 15.
The non-conference schedule continues with Santa Clara, a WCC co-regular season champion, in a home match (Sept. 22). CSUN's final tune-up before conference play is a road match with another NCAA Tournament team in Seattle U on Sept. 27.
The 2024 Big West opener is set for Wednesday, Oct. 2 when the Matadors face UC Riverside. Three of the next four games will be played away from home as CSUN visits UC San Diego on Oct. 5 before hosting UC Davis (Oct. 9) and traveling to Cal State Bakersfield (Oct. 12) and Sacramento State (Oct. 16). CSUN faces reigning Big West champions UC Irvine on Saturday Oct. 19 at Matador Soccer Field while the Matadors are set for a road test at UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 23.
The Matadors' final home regular season game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 against Cal Poly followed by the road finale at Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 2.
The 2024 Big West Championship kicks off on Nov. 6 with quarterfinals matches. The tournament continues on Nov. 9 with the semifinal round before the championship game on Nov. 16.
CSUN returns 19 total from last season's roster including 14 letterwinners while the team has added 14 newcomers. Among the returning group, four players competed in every match last season and three started 12 or more matches. Jorge Solorzano returns after earning Big West Freshman of the Year honors as he scored five goals with three assists in 2023.
