NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – CSUN women's volleyball head coach Aquiles Montoya has officially announced the Matadors' 2024 schedule.
CSUN opens its 30-match season, Montoya's first at the helm of the program, with an exhibition match against defending NCAA Div. II National Champions Cal State LA on Aug. 24. The regular season gets underway against Seattle University at the Idaho State Tournament on Aug. 30. The match against Seattle is the first of 11 non-conference matches the Matadors will play before the Big West season gets underway Sept. 27 against Cal Poly in Northridge.
"We are excited to test our team with this schedule," said Montoya. "The Big West has plenty of challenges with tough opponents and home crowds, so we wanted to make sure that our non-conference schedule allowed us to experience those things before conference play. There are no easy opponents for us, so it's important that we get support from our CSUN family, fans, and supporters at home and on the road throughout the season!"
In addition to the regular season opener against Seattle, CSUN will also take on San Diego State (Aug. 31) and host Idaho State (Sept. 1) in Pocatello on the opening weekend of the season. The Matadors then head to Sacramento for their second and final tournament of the season beginning on Sept. 5. CSUN will meet the host Sacramento State Hornets (Sept. 5), San Francisco (Sept. 6), and New Mexico State (Sept. 7) over three days in the State Capitol.
The Matadors will play four of their last non-conference matches at home. The stretch begins with a neutral site match against Nevada at CBU's Van Dyne Gym in Riverside on Sept. 13, before CSUN takes on California Baptist in its regular season home opener at Premier America Credit Union Arena on Sept. 17. The Matadors will also host Washington State (Sept. 19) and Portland for two matches on Sept. 20. Sept. 21 to cap the non-conference portion of the 2024 schedule.
The 18-match Big West season opens at home with matches against Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 27-28. The Gauchos were one of two Big West schools that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
The month of October opens with road matches at UC Irvine (Oct. 4) and Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 5) before the Matadors return home to host Long Beach State (Oct. 10) and UC San Diego (Oct. 12). CSUN finishes up October with road matches at UC Riverside (Oct. 17) and defending Big West Champions Hawai'i (Oct. 27) around a pair of home matches against UC Davis (Oct. 19) and Cal State Bakersfield (Oct. 24).
The final month of the regular season has the Matadors playing five road matches and three home matches. CSUN hosts Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine (Nov. 1-2) before heading out on a three-match road swing. The Matadors make return trips to UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 8), Cal Poly (Nov. 9), and UC Davis (Nov. 14) before hosting UC Riverside in their home finale on Nov. 16. CSUN then travels to UC San Diego (Nov. 22) and Long Beach State (Nov. 23) to close the regular season.
The second-ever Outrigger Big West Women's Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Nov. 27-30 at the Bren Events Center at UC Irvine.
