CSUN Falls to UC Davis, 1-0 in Road Big West Contest

DAVIS, Calif. — CSUN Men's Soccer had 17 shots but couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 road loss Saturday night at Aggie Soccer Field.
The Aggies (1-6-5) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 58th minute when Gabriel Haggerty converted a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner off a setup from Declan Horio. It was the lone goal of the night and stood as the game-winner.
CSUN (6-3-4) created several chances in the second half, outshooting UC Davis 13-9 after the break. Axel Agurcia forced a save from Aggie goalkeeper Noah Schwengeler in the 76th minute, and Justin Sosa nearly equalized in the 86th with a low strike turned away at the right post.
Goalkeeper Dorian Drucks recorded six saves for the Matadors, including key stops on early efforts from Zack Lillington and Cason Goodman to keep the match level through halftime. Schwengeler finished with two saves to earn the shutout for UC Davis.
Luke Lawrence and Zion Wagoner each took two shots for CSUN, while Agurcia, Sosa and Seydou Diop led the attack with three apiece. The Matadors held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks during the second half but couldn't capitalize.
NOTES OF THE GAME
CSUN will stay on the road as the Matadors will take on UC Irvine, Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Anteater Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
