CSUN Hosts Cal State Bakersfield in Penultimate Fall Event
10/6/2025 11:20:00 AM | Women's Golf
The dual match, CSUN's second-to-last event of the fall, will feature one round (18 holes) of stroke play. The low four scores of five players will count toward the team total. In case of a tie for the first-place team, the No. 5 player's score will serve as the tiebreaker. In case of a tie for the individual title, the back nine scores will serve as the tiebreaker. If a tie remains, the last six holes on the back nine will serve as the tiebreaker.
After two years hosting a tri-match at Soule Park in Ojai, the Matadors will take on the Roadrunners for the second time in dual-match action at Sandpiper Golf Course. CSUN defeated Bakersfield by 11 shots (306-317) at Sandpiper on Nov. 6, 2024.
CSUN has had an impressive fall season to date, winning the season-opening Wolverine Invitational in Utah (Sept. 8-9) and finishing second at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate in Montana (Sept. 15-16). The Matadors are coming off an eighth-place finish at the Colonel Wallenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Colorado (Sept. 22-23). After the CSUB dual match, CSUN will conclude the fall portion of the 2025-26 season at The Clash at Boulder Creek in Nevada on Oct. 27-28.
Senior Gracie Piar and sophomore Ariya Soldwisch each carry a team-leading 71.88 scoring average into the CSUB dual. Junior Nicole Tanoue and senior Kim Turgut are right behind at 72.50 and 72.75, respectively. Turgut had a great final two tournaments in September, finishing tied for third at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate and tied for 12th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
All eight CSUN players will compete on Tuesday, with freshman Sophie Cook making her CSUN debut and junior Ellie Shirley making her 2025-26 debut. Fellow freshman Lily McGowan made her Matador debut at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, finishing in a tie for 67th at 13-over 157.
