11/1/2025 11:01:00 PM | Men's Soccer
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Despite playing a man up for more than a half, CSUN Men's Soccer settled for a 1-1 draw against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field to close out the 2025 season.
Senior Finn Werner, who was playing in his final game, put the Matadors (6-6-6, 1-5-3 Big West) ahead late in the first half with his first career goal. Werner capitalized off a free kick just above the box in the 41st minute, finishing from 19 yards out after a flick pass from Siddiq Lezzar and setup by Francisco Garibay.
The Gauchos (6-4-8, 4-0-5 Big West) equalized early in the second half through Zac Siebenlist, who chipped in his fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute following assists from Ramses Martinez and Kaden Standish.
Both teams tallied 14 shots, while goalkeepers Dorian Drucks of CSUN and Owen Beninga of UCSB each made five saves. Enrique Pineda led the Matadors with seven shots, three on goal.
NOTES OF THE GAME
"During the season we had a top-rated defense statistically in the NCAA. The foundation is there. We had a tough time producing goals throughout the year, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort. We had a lot of close results. We gotta improve our quality and we will. I love our foundation and our effort. Our senior leadership will go down as one of our best classes we've ever had. They are tremendous students, tremendous teammates and you can rely on them on and off the field. To watch them grow and see the impact they had on the players around them is awesome. There is not one complaint about our senior class."
