SAN DIEGO, Calif -- CSUN women's basketball (2-1) has fallen to the San Diego State Aztecs by a score of 91-70 at Viejas Arena Wednesday night. Rita Nazårio led all CSUN scorers with 16 points. Nadia Bernard added 10 of her own in the defeat.
Â
FIRST HALFÂ
CSUN got out to an early 13-8 lead thanks in part to consecutive three-point jumpers from Amya Moody and Morgan Edwards. Erika Aspajo had a three as well in the early going. CSUN would reach its biggest lead of the quarter at 19-13 with 1:41 left after Kelly Tumlin drove in for a layup with the help of a pass from Moody.
Â
SDSU would then go on a game-best 18-0 run. Kennedy Lee from SDSU nailed three treys in that surge by the Aztecs. CSUN would then cut the lead back to single digits from baskets by Maya Contreras and Aspajo. After the Aspajo bucket, Lee hit another three-pointer.
She ended the half going 5-7 from behind the arc, with 17 points total to lead both teams at the half-way point. The Aztecs had a stronger showing in quarter number two, as SDSU carried a 50-31 lead heading into the break.
Â
SECOND HALF
SDSU started the second half on a 13-0 run before Nazårio ended it with a three point jump shot. Alyssa Jackson countered for the Aztecs with a driving layup at the 06:29 mark to make it a 65-34 game. After another made two for SDSU, Nazårio got fouled on a three and drained three foul shots to cut the lead back to 30. Nearing the end of the third, Jite Gbemuotor had a nice spin and drive for an and-one layup to make it a 78-45 game.
