CSUN Hosts Rainbow Wahine For Three-Game Series

GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Softball (10-12, 3-0 Big West) returns home this week to open up its home Big West schedule when it takes on the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine for a three-game series at Matador Diamond. The Matadors will battle UH in a single game on Friday at 1:00 p.m. CSUN will then wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitches at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. The doubleheader will be live-streamed on ESPN+

LAST TIME IN THE BATTER'S BOX
CSUN had a wonderful weekend last time out to begin Big West play. The Matadors swept the Cal Poly Mustangs in a three-game series. CSUN scored 25 runs over three games, including 12 in the run rule win on Sunday. While scoring 25, Matador pitching only allowed four runs as well, as it wasn't just the offense showing up and showing out in San Luis Obispo.

CSUN won the first game, 7-2, and the second game, 6-2. Reagan Jackson and Tiara Westbrook accounted for six RBI's during the two games. Pitchers Lauryn Carranco and Isabella Alonso both pitched complete games.

In the third game, CSUN won 12-0 in five innings while also tallying 19 hits. The 19 hits is the most in a game since 2004.

Jadyn Nielsen had three RBI's to lead the Matadors. Jerzie Liana added two runs batted in herself. Carranco pitched a complete (five innings) game shutout in the victory. Alexis Chavez had four hits. The 19 hits are tied for third most in CSUN history. CSUN is now winners of five straight.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
CSUN is coming off a week where two players were named Player of The Week by the Big West. Chavez took home Field Player of The Week while Carranco was named Pitcher of The Week.

Chavez had an impressive weekend in a three-game sweep at Cal Poly. In the three games against the Mustangs, she had six hits in nine at-bats, including going 4-4 in the Sunday game where CSUN registered its most hits in a game since 2004 (19). Chavez, the senior from Riverside, had three RBI's to go along with six total bases in the three-game series.

Carranco is coming off two masterful performances against Cal Poly this past weekend. She started two games, completed two games, and won two games out of the three played. In game one on Friday, she pitched all seven innings, only allowing two runs on nine hits. She did a great job of stranding runners when they did reach. Also, she struck out seven Mustangs, tied for the most strikeouts in a game this season for her.

In game three of the series, the junior from Clovis was rock solid. She pitched all five innings in the game that CSUN won via run rule. Carranco allowed five hits, working all five innings while only throwing 77 pitches. On the season, Carranco is 6-5 with a 3.55 ERA. In 12 games started, she has 10 complete games while striking out 55 hitters so far this season.

CARMAN THE CAPTAIN IN THE OUTFIELD
Senior outfielder Mikayla Carman has been a leader offensively so far in this young campaign. She has started in all 22 games and has a .368 batting average with a .500 on base percentage. She gets hits, 25 to be exact. And she draws walks, 14 of them to be exact, as she leads the team in each category. Carman was also selected to the Preseason All Big-West Team, and so far she is living up to the billing.

SCOUTING HAWAI'IÂ
UH is currently 15-10 and 1-2 in the Big West to start the season. Hawai'i went 1-2 against Long Beach State last week. UH looked strong in a 6-1 win over The Beach to open the series. But LBSU then swept UH in Saturday's doubleheader, 8-3 and 9-1 in six innings.

Sophomore shortstop Milan Ah Yat leads UH with a .349 batting average, 17 RBI (tied with Jamie McGaughey), 16 walks (tied with Izabella Martinez), and a .481 on-base percentage. Ah Yat has gone 22-for-63 at the plate with four doubles, four home runs and seven runs scored for the season.

In the circle the Bows are led by Addison Kostrencich. She leads UH with an 8-5 overall record and a team-low 2.49 ERA. She has fired a team-high eight complete games and 73.0 innings pitched. Last week, she went 1-1 against Long Beach State earned a complete-game win in the series opener.

Hawai'i leads the Big West with 20 total home runs and 0.8 home runs per game. Seven different Rainbow Wahine have hit at least one homer this season
