NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN Men's Golf team is set to open the 2025 Big West Men's Golf Championship on Sunday, Apr. 27 in La Quinta. 12 teams will play 54 holes over three days (Apr. 27-29) in a battle for the conference crown and a berth in the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional field.
With an automatic NCAA Championship berth on the line, expect three days of intense competition over the par-72, 7,060-yard layout with an expanded field. For the fifth straight year, the three-day championship will be contested at La Quinta Country Club in Palm Desert. This year, along with the nine squads who took to the course in previous iterations of The Big West Championship, three new teams will tee off for the title: fully-eligible UC San Diego and affiliate members Idaho and Sacramento State join the fray from the desert. The Matadors are seeded 12th in the championship and will be paired with No. 10 seed Hawai'i and No. 11 seed UC Santa Barbara for Sunday's opening round.
Sophomore Liam Judkins, junior Domenic De Luca, and freshmen Bryson Barnes, Nick Fry, and Tavin Boman will be the five who will battle for CSUN's first conference crown since 2000. Sophomore Dillon Jonke will be the alternate for the Matadors at the championship.
Last season, Long Beach State went back-to-back in earning The Big West crown after a strong finish on the back nine to hold off second-place Cal State Fullerton. Titan Tegan Andrews claimed individual medalist honors in wire-to-wire fashion after opening up with a first-round 63 before closing with a three-round total of 14-under 202.Â
CSUN finished sixth at the 2024 Big West Championship, matching its low round two straight days, carding rounds of 1-under 287. Individually, Antoine Sale finished in the top 10 in his first and only Big West Championship appearance. Sale, who began the final round in 11th place, carded his second consecutive round of even-par 72 to finish alone in 10th place at 1-over 217 for the championship. At 17-over 881 (307-287-287), CSUN finished sixth in the nine-team field.
This season, the Matadors have one top-five and one top-10 team finish, along with one top-10 individual finish from Judkins at CSUN's Bill Cullum Invitational in October. Judkins comes into the championship leading the Matadors with a 74.27 scoring average in 10 tournaments this season. De Luca is second at 74.50, Barnes is third (74.96), Fry is fourth (75.23), and Boman is fifth (75.95).
The Matadors are seeking their best conference championship finish since finishing second in 2017. Behind senior Felix Mory's individual win, CSUN's 2017 finish was its best conference finish since winning the Big Sky Conference championship in 2000. The Matadors have three third-place Big West Championship finishes in 2004, 2008, and again in 2011.
