NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- One of CSUN Women's Basketball's biggest signings in the offseason, Rita Nazario, will compete on the world stage for Portugal at the U19 World Championships in Czechia beginning on Saturday, July 12. Sixteen of the best national teams from all over the globe will descend on the streets of Brno looking for the title of the best team under 19 in the world. The event will take place in the group stage from July 12-20.
Â
Nazario comes to CSUN after spending her first collegiate year at Saint Louis University for the 2024-25 season. The 5-5 sophomore from Figueira da Foz, Portugal played in five games for the Billikens, scoring her first career points against Ohio last December.
Â
Nazario is not a stranger to international competition. She competed in the U18 Women's Eurobasket in Matosinhos, Portugal where she averaged 6.3 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in helping her team to a fifth-place finish out of 16 teams in the tournament.
Â
The Mechanical Engineering major played for the CRC Quinta dos Lombos club team in her home country. She was part of a team that in 2024 finished third in the U18 National Final Four and in the U18 Lisbon District Final Four. She was selected to the Ideal 5 in each competition and was the leading scorer in district play. She also helped the club finish second in the 2022-23 U18 nationals and win the 2021-22 U16 national championship, where she earned Most Valuable Player honors.
