Â
The 2025 season would be an important one in the 67-year history of CSUN Baseball. The Matadors played night games for the first time in front of their home crowd, giving the CSUN faithful a brand new experience at baseball games.
The brand-new lighting system is part of an ongoing renovation and expansion of the Matadors' home baseball field, which was renamed Robert J. Hiegert Field prior to the season.Â
CSUN hosted its first series at Robert J. Hiegert Field from Feb. 20-22 against BYU with the Matadors collecting a victory in the finale of the series. The opener of the series would be the first night game played in Northridge in team history. Tyler Mejia belted the Matadors' first home run under the lights, a solo blast in the fourth inning, which would be accompanied by a light show to celebrate the moment.Â
The Matadors hosted 14 of their 24 home games under the stadium lights with several top moments on the season occurring in front of the night time scenery. Along with memorable home wins over Big West foes in Hawai'i and UC Riverside, CSUN knocked off future NCAA Regional team Cal Poly in front of the home crowd on May 10 after hammering four home runs in an 11-6 victory.Â
Along with the new lights, CSUN installed a new Daktronics state-of-the-art videoboard in 2024, while enhances have been made to the playing-field surface to make the Robert J. Hiegert Field among the best on the West Coast. CSUN is continuing to raise funds to complete many other upgrades to the home ballpark that has stood for six-plus decades.
