NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- CSUN men's soccer midfielder Dave-Ryan Tankou was named the Big West Rookie of the Week for his performance as announced by the league office on Monday.
Â
Tankou had back-to-back games where he was an impact player on the pitch. In Wednesday's 2-1 loss at UC Irvine, Tankou had an assist on the goal by the Matadors in the 77th minute. In Saturday's win against Fullerton,
Tankou had a game-tying goal in the 11th minute that jumpstarted the CSUN offense in a game where the Matadors won 3-1.
Â
Against UCI, Tankou was driving in the left side of the box and he hit a cross that was deflected by the goalkeeper right into the lane of Jack Cameron. Cameron slotted his attempt on the low right side as the keeper had no chance to catch up to cut CSUN's deficit to 2-1. While CSUN ended up dropping the contest, Tankou's assist was vital in keeping the Matadors within striking distance up until the final whistle.
Â
In Saturday's win against Cal State Fullerton, not even a minute after CSUF scored the first goal of the night, Cameron placed a ball to the right side of the box that was deflected off the head of a Titan defender, right into the attacking space of Tankou. The freshman struck with his right foot into the high left side of the goal, tying the game at one apiece. It was Tankou's second goal of the year.
Â
CSUN went on to beat Fullerton, 3-1, in what ended up being the Matadors' first Big West win this season.
Â
Overall the freshman finished the week with one goal, one assist, three points and three shots.
Â
So far this season, Tankou has played in 12 games and started in 11 of them. He has tallied two goals, two assists, six points on 11 shots as he has become a mainstay in the CSUN attack.
Â
CSUN next plays on the road at UC Riverside on Wednesday, October 14. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
