Mahmoud Fofana Claims Big West Player of the Week Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN senior forward Mahmoud Fofana received his first career Big West Player of the Week award on Monday, as announced by the league's office. Fofana helped CSUN to back-to-back home victories over UC Davis and UC San Diego and averaged a double-double for the week.Â
In consecutive 22-point, 10-rebound performances, Fofana shot an exceptional 76.2 percent from the floor (16-of-21 shooting) while he was strong at the free throw line, making 12-of-16 attempts. Fofana would also record three assists, two blocks and one steal in 27.7 minutes per game. His back-to-back double-doubles were the first of his Matador career.Â

This past Thursday, Fofana was 8-of-10 from the floor, posting 22 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in a 94-78 victory over UC Davis at Premier America Credit Union Arena. He helped CSUN rally from a halftime deficit as the Matadors went on to outscore the Aggies 50-30 in the second half. Fofana did most of his damage in the second half, posting 15 of his 22 points on 5-of-6 shooting.Â
Facing UC San Diego on Saturday, Fofana was exceptional again as he registered his second straight double-double in 29 minutes of action to help lift CSUN to an 81-64 win and a season sweep of the Tritons. Once more, Fofana saved his best work for the second half where he made 6-of-7 shots and totaled 17 points of his 22 points. In collecting 10 rebounds in the game, Fofana recorded his fifth double-double and his seventh double-digit rebounding performance of the season.Â
A San Jose native, Fofana has enjoyed a career season on the court in 2025-26. The 6-6 forward has posted new CSUN career highs in scoring (11.5), rebounding (8.0) and assists (1.5). From the floor, Fofana has also registered a 65.2 field goal percentage on the season. Earlier this season, Fofana became the 20th Matador in school history to reach 500 career rebounds and has since moved up to 19th on the all-time list.Â
Fofana is the second Matador to win the Big West Player of the Week award this season, joining Larry Hughes II who received the accolade on Dec. 15, 2025.Â
CSUN will return to action this week with two games on tap as the Matadors travel to Cal Poly on Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+Â before hosting UC Riverside on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Spectrum SportsNet.Â
