Madison Okano had four hits, including two home runs and three RBIs in game one. Amber Rivas had three hits and three RBIs as well. The Matadors had 13 total hits against the Redhawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
CSUN jumped on the Redhawks from the very beginning. On the first pitch of the game, Okano homered to left field to put the Matadors on top 1-0.
In the next inning, CSUN got things started with an Isabella Valdez walk. The next batter, Bernyce Villegas walked as well, putting two runners on for Madilyn Hernandez. Hernandez promptly homered to left center, giving CSUN a four-run cushion at 4-0.
However, CSUN was not done in the second. Kylie Kolkowski got hit by a pitch and Okano singled to put two more runners on. Savannah Simons then singled up the middle to load the basesfor Rivas. Rivas then hit a ball to the deepest part of the park, just in front of the wall for a two-run single that put CSUN up 6-0 at the end of two.
The Redhawks got one back in the bottom of the third. Ava Sin singled with a runner on base to make it 6-1 through three.
CSUN quickly responded. Okano doubled and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Rivas singled through the left side, scoring Okano to make it a 7-1 ballgame.
In the fifth inning, CSUN once again threw a punch. After Kolkowski reached base, Okano homered to left field for her second blast of the game, putting the Matadors up 9-1.
In the bottom half of the fifth, the Redhawk bats came to life. Mikee Morris homered with a runner on to add two runs on the board. A walk with the bases loaded and a single with the bases loaded made it 9-5 while another single made it 9-6.
Berkley Vance would then double to clear the bases and tie things up at nine apiece. A walk, a single and wild pitch would add two more for Seattle, as the Redhawks ended the fifth up 11-9.
Seattle U would add three more in the bottom of the sixth with a single and sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.
GAME TWO
The Matadors plated an unearned run in the top of the first inning. Okano and Raegan Jackson were each hit by a pitch to spark the rally before Isabella Hiner delivered a single up the middle to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Okano to score for a 1-0 Matadors lead.
Utah answered immediately in the bottom half. After a leadoff double and a walk, Payton Crank launched a three-run home run to left field to put the Utes in front 3-1.
Utah did not look back. The Utes extended their lead in the second inning when Kennedy Proctor connected on a two-run homer to make it 5-1. Proctor struck again in the sixth with a three-run shot to deep center, finishing with five RBIs on the day.
Jackson paced CSUN offensively, going 1-for-2 with a double to right center in the third inning. Hiner, Rivas, Valdez and Villegas each added a hit as the Matadors totaled five for the game.
CSUN had opportunities throughout, putting eight runners on base.
In the circle, freshman Kaitlyn Tso worked all six innings, striking out four.
