HONOLULU, HI. --- The CSUN softball team (9-17, 5-5 Big West) fell to the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine, 7-1 Friday night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Savannah Simons had the lone RBI in the defeat.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
After a scoreless CSUN top half of the first, Kaitlyn Tso gave up a base hit and a walk to the first two Rainbow Wahine hitters. After a flyout to right, the lead runner advanced to third base. Millie then hit a ground ball to shortstop Simons, which was fumbled, allowing a run to score. Tso was able to get out of the jam without allowing any more runs, keeping the score at 1-0.Â
Â
In the bottom of the third, Tso struck out Carys Murakami to begin the inning. After a walk, the following batter, Millie Fidge homered to deep center field to extend the lead to 3-0 through three.
Â
In the top of the fourth, Ta'Tiannah Wright got hit by a pitch to start the inning. Raegan Jackson moved Wright over to second with a ground ball to the second baseman. Amber Rivas then reached on an infield single as the Matadors now had runners on the corners for Simons. CSUN then scored its first run of the game. Simons grounded to the shortstop as the runner was out at second on a fielder's choice. After the throw to second, the lead runner Wright fled for home. She got in just under the tag and scored. The inning ended on a fly out, but CSUN scored one to pull to within 3-1 through three and a half.
Â
In the bottom half of the inning, the 'Bows struck back. After a groundout, Bailey Nagasako singled up the middle. KayaraLeigh Tuiloma then doubled down the left field line and Nagasako scored to make it 4-1. Tuiloma advanced to third on an error from Madison Okano. The next batter, Briana MaioSilva singled up the middle, scoring the runner from third to make it a 5-1 game.
Â
In the bottom of the fifth, Murakami reached on an error to start. After two flyouts, Hawai'i capitalized on back-to-back singles to score its sixth run of the game to make it 6-1 through five.
Â
UH added an insurance run in the sixth, a solo homer off the bat of Kolbi Kochi to make it 7-1.
