NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN Men's Golf team is set to open the 2026 Big West Men's Golf Championship on Sunday, May 3, at La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta. 10 teams will play 54 holes over three days (May 3-5) in a battle for the conference crown and a berth in the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional field.
The Big West Men's Golf Championship returns for a sixth consecutive year to La Quinta Golf and Country Club. 10 teams will take to the course for an automatic berth in the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, and the individual medalist also earns a place in the regional field if not a member of the winning team, nor on a team chosen for an at-large selection.  Â
Last season, Long Beach State earned the three-peat, claiming the Big West crown with a new championship record of 22-under 842. The Beach's Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa claimed individual medalist honors in wire-to-wire fashion with a Big West record 16-under 200.Â
Sophomore Bryson Barnes, junior Ethan Posthumus, senior Domenic De Luca, sophomore Tavin Boman, and junior Liam Judkins will be the five who will battle for CSUN's first conference crown since 2000. Junior Dillon Jonke will be the alternate for the Matadors at the championship.
This season, the Matadors have one top-five and a pair of top-10 team finishes, along with top-10 individual finishes from Barnes (two), Posthumus, and Judkins. Barnes, who finished a season-best second at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic two weeks ago, comes into the championship leading the Matadors with a 73.28 scoring average in 10 tournaments this season. Posthumus is second at 74.22, followed by De Luca at 74.23. Judkins is fourth at 74.93, and Boman is fifth at 75.23.
CSUN finished seventh at the 2025 Big West Championship, posting a team score of 5-over 869. Judkins posted his best-ever Big West Championship finish in 2026, tying for eighth at 4-under 212. Barnes, Boman, and De Luca also made their first appearance in the Big West Championship in 2025. Barnes tied for 21st at 2-over 218, Boman tied for 29th at 3-over 219, and De Luca tied for 42nd at 6-over 222.
The Matadors are seeking their best conference championship finish since placing second in 2017. Behind senior Felix Mory's individual win, CSUN's 2017 finish was its best conference finish since winning the Big Sky Conference championship in 2000. The Matadors have also finished third at four different Big West Championships:Â 2004, 2008, 2011, and 2022.
