Brockway's Career Night Propels CSUN to 3-1 Win Over San Francisco

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Senior Hailey Brockway posted a career-high 26 kills Saturday as CSUN defeated San Francisco 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20 in the Matadors' second match at the Linda Murphy Ridge Invitational at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
Brockway led CSUN (3-4) with 26 kills on 55 swings to hit a career-best .345. She also added eight digs, two service aces and a block assist for a match-high 28.5 points. Brockway, whose previous high was 25 kills against Central Arkansas on Aug. 30, had five kills in each of the first two sets, eight in the third and eight more in the fourth to help the Matadors close out the match.
CSUN hit .248 as a team and finished with 12.0 blocks. Sophomore Fallyn Blotzer reached double figures in kills for the second straight match with 10 to go with seven digs, while senior Tatiana Turgeon had seven kills on .267 hitting. Fellow senior Iye Okolo was efficient in the middle with six kills on 11 swings without an error, adding one solo block and eight block assists. Freshman Annie Gilmore chipped in four kills and six block assists.
Setter Jan Marie Duhaylungsod handed out 23 assists with seven digs and two aces, while Katie Kolar had 20 assists, 11 digs and three aces for her second consecutive double-double and third of the season. Senior libero Paige Sentes anchored the back row with a match-high 20 digs to go with seven assists, and one ace.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN opened the match by edging San Francisco in a tight first set, using late kills from Brockway and Blotzer to close out a 25-23 win. The Matadors then delivered their sharpest offensive set of the afternoon in the second, hitting .452 with 16 kills and just two errors to take the frame, 25-14.
After San Francisco extended the match with a 25-23 win in the third, CSUN answered in a back-and-forth fourth set that featured 11 ties and six lead changes. Brockway helped push the Matadors ahead late with a kill and an ace, and CSUN scored the final three points to seal the 25-20 victory.
Petra Fritz led San Francisco (4-5) with 16 kills, while Katariina Korhonen added 13 kills and 12 digs.
