STOCKTON, CALIF. --- The CSUN men's soccer team (3-2-1) defeated the Pacific Tigers, 3-1 Sunday night at Knoles Field. Justin Sosa, Damien Baltierra and Enrique Pineda all found the back of the net for the Matadors. CSUN built a two-goal halftime advantage and answered a second-half Pacific push with a late insurance goal by Pineda

HOW IT HAPPENED

CSUN struck early, netting its first goal in the 12th minute. A Jorge Solorzano long distance kick was headed in by Sosa, as he found the upper-right corner of the net. It was the senior's first Matador goal in two seasons with the red and black, putting all the momentum on CSUN's side in the early going.

CSUN continued to generate pressure throughout the half, putting four of its six shots on target. Pacific goalkeeper Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made two saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance. Kayvon Monfared and Adrian Jones recorded shots for the Matadors.

The Matadors doubled the lead when they added a goal just before halftime when Damien Baltierra found the back of the net in the 44th minute, giving CSUN a 2-0 cushion heading into the break. It was Baltierra's first Matador goal as well.

Pacific came out aggressively in the second half, eventually cutting the deficit in the 60th minute when a CSUN own goal made it a 2-1 game.

The Tigers continued to threaten, but CSUN goalkeeper Dorian Drucks came up with two saves in the second half, including a stop on a low shot from Massimo Erfani in the 72nd minute. Pacific also had another shot blocked during its push to equalize.

CSUN weathered the pressure before restoring its two-goal cushion in the 80th minute. Pineda scored on a low shot to the left side of the net off an assist from Adrian Jones, putting the Matadors ahead 3-1. It was Pineda's first goal of the season.

NOTES OF THE GAME

CSUN earns its first road win of the season.
The win is CSUN's second against Pacific in the last two seasons.
CSUN's three goals are the second-most scored in a game so far this year.
Nine different Matadors have scored goals this season.
Daniel Garcia, Tito Oyewo and Dominik Wicks all played 90 minutes.
