CSUN Claims Linda Murphy Ridge Invitational Title After Sweeping Fresno State

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUNÂ Women's Volleyball completed a perfect weekend Sunday afternoon, sweeping Fresno State 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 to win the Linda Murphy Ridge Invitational at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
The Matadors finished the tournament 3-0 and improved to 4-4 on the season. Fresno State fell to 3-6.
Senior Hailey Brockway and sophomore Fallyn Blotzer led CSUN with 12 kills apiece. Brockway added eight digs, while Blotzer hit .458 on 24 swings, served three aces and finished with nine digs. Audrey Nuckols added three kills, Tatiana Turgeon had six kills on .333 hitting, and Iye Okolo put down seven kills on .462 hitting.
CSUN hit .270 as a team and held Fresno State to a .133 team hitting clip. The Matadors also served eight aces, including three from Katie Kolar and three from Blotzer. CSUN also controlled the match defensively with a 45-28 advantage in team digs, with a match-high 13 digs from senior libero Paige Sentes.Â
Kolar finished with 23 assists, four digs and three aces, while Jan Marie Duhaylungsod added 16 assists, four digs and an ace.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors set the tone early, hitting .314 in the opening set and siding out at 75 percent on the way to a 25-19 win. CSUN kept control in the second, using a balanced attack and strong serving to pull away for a 25-16 victory.
CSUN closed the sweep in the third set behind 16 kills, with Brockway, Blotzer, Turgeon and Okolo helping the Matadors jump out to a 12-3 lead to pull away. The win sealed the tournament title and capped a 3-0 weekend at home.

Brockway was named Tournament MVP after leading the Matadors throughout the weekend. Blotzer, Sentes and Turgeon were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Kiley Devery led Fresno State with eight kills, while Jenna Legault added seven.
HEAD COACH AQUILES MONTOYA SAID
"Throughout the week and matches our team really showed their character. Playing like a hungry team was the biggest theme and we showed it. Different players stepped up and got us out of runs, and while we have plenty to work on it seemed like we found our stride today. For us to put that performance together on our home floor, against a well-coached Fresno State team told me a lot about the maturity of this group.
"It means a lot to win this tournament especially with it being the first year of it being named after Linda Murphy who was especially kind, welcoming and helpful to me when I took this job too. After a long week we are excited to get our players some rest for two tough matches against LMU next week."
UP NEXT
CSUN wraps up the non-conference season next week as the Matadors take on LMU in a home-and-home series. CSUN travels to Los Angeles on Thursday at 6 p.m., before returning to Northridge for a 1 p.m. first serve on Saturday.
