CSUN Drops Four-Set Decision at LMU

LOS ANGELES - CSUN battled LMU through four tight sets Thursday night, but the Matadors ultimately fell 26-24, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21 in a non-conference match at Gersten Pavilion.
The Matadors, who had their season-high three-match winning streak snapped, slip to 4-5 on the season, while LMU improves to 8-2.
Sophomore Fallyn Blotzer led CSUN with 13 kills (.214), nine digs and two service aces. Senior Tatiana Turgeon added seven kills (.167) and and had a strong night at the net with three solo blocks and four block assists. Fellow middle Iye Okolo finished with six kills (.214), six solo blocks and two block assists. Senior Hailey Brockway chipped in eight kills (-.068), seven digs, two aces and two solo blocks.
CSUN finished with 19.0 team blocks and held LMU to a .082 hitting percentage, but the Matadors were limited to a .069 team hitting clip.
Setter Katie Kolar handed out 23 assists and added 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while senior libero Paige Sentes had a match-high 23 digs. Taylor Dunlap added 11 assists off the bench, and Audrey Nuckols contributed four kills, six digs and four total blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After dropping the first two sets (26-24, 25-21), CSUN responded in the third. The Matadors totaled 14 kills in the frame and leaned on their block to extend rallies, pulling out a 26-24 win to force a fourth set.
CSUN continued to pressure LMU in the fourth, hitting its best mark of the night at .184, but the Lions closed the set late to finish the match.
Maria Tabacuks led LMU with 18 kills, while Zaria Thornton added nine kills on .421 hitting.

The same two teams will match up again on Saturday in Northridge. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Premier America Credit Union Arena.
