LMU Rallies Past CSUN in Matadors' Non-Conference Finale

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Loyola Marymount rallied after dropping the first two sets and defeated CSUN 14-25, 24-26, 25-11, 27-25, 15-9 in a non-conference match on Saturday at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
In the Matadors' final non-conference match, sophomore Fallyn Blotzer led CSUN (4-6) with a season-high 15 kills (.089) along with three blocks. Senior Iye Okolo added a season-high 10 kills (.304), while Tatiana Turgeon and freshman Annie Gilmore each chipped in nine kills with Turgeon hitting .438 on 16 swings and Gilmore hitting .350 on 20 attacks. Senior Julia Bazylevych added eight kills (.192) and setter Katie Kolar totaled 31 assists and nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CSUN stormed out to a 12-0 lead in the opening set and never allowed LMU to recover. Blotzer recorded three kills during the run, and the Matadors closed out the set 25-14.
The second set was tightly contested, with 14 ties and seven lead changes. CSUN built a 21-16 advantage before LMU used a 6-1 run to pull even at 22. The Matadors regained control late, breaking a 24-24 tie on an LMU service error before Audrey Nuckols' block sealed the 26-24 victory.
LMU responded in the third set, scoring the first nine points and building a 17-3 lead. The Lions hit .471 in the set and extended the match with a 25-11 win.
CSUN regained its rhythm in the fourth, hitting .298 and opening up a 22-17 cushion following a Blotzer kill. The visitors rallied back behind a 6-1 run to tie the score at 23. The score remained tied at 24-24 when LMU scored the final three points to win 27-25 and force a deciding set.
The Lions carried that momentum into the fifth, taking a 6-2 lead and later stretching the advantage to 11-6. CSUN could not close the gap as LMU finished the comeback with a 15-9 win.
LMU (9-2) was led by Maria Tabacuks' 20 kills and Nicole Schuetz's 15.
