CSUN Posts 298 in Opening Round of Gene Miranda Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior Freddie Carcamo fired a 2-under 70 and is in the top 10 after the opening round of Air Force's Gene Miranda Invitational on Saturday at Eisenhower Golf Course.
In his CSUN debut, Carcamo carded four birdies, 13 pars, and a double bogey to finish the day at 2-under. He was especially strong on the front nine, carding a pair of birdies to make the turn at 2-under 34. Carcamo closed with another two birdies and one double bogey at No. 15 to post an even-par 36 on the back nine.
As a team, CSUN carded an opening round 10-over 298 and currently sits 15th in the 18-team field. Utah Valley and Colorado both posted team rounds of 8-under 280 to lead the team competition, while UVU's Dylan Winona and Colorado's Parker Paxton share the individual lead at 4-under 68.

"It was good to see Freddie play well, he was solid for us today, he hit the ball and putted well. Bryson battled back on the back nine which was good. As a team we threw away too many shots today, but I'm hoping for a pretty big improvement tomorrow."

- Following Carcamo, junior Bryson Barnes had an eagle, two birdies, and nine pars in a round of 2-over 74. Barnes is tied for 47th heading into Sunday's second round.

Senior Ethan Posthumus posted three birdies and nine pars and is tied for 64th at 4-over 76. - Junior Tavin Boman managed a pair of birdies along with nine pars and is tied for 76th at 6-over 78
- Junior Brecht Hulsmann, also making his CSUN debut, rounded out the lineup and is 88th at 10-over 82.
- A pair of Matadors are competing in the individual tournament with senior Liam Judkins tied for eighth at 1-under 71, and senior Dillon Jonke tied for 13th at 1-over 73.
