NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN men's soccer team (3-4-1) fell to Grand Canyon, 2-1, Sunday night at Matador Soccer Field. Jorge Solorzano scored his first goal of the season in the defeat. Solorzano scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute, but GCU rallied to score the next two on its way to sealing the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams went back and forth with possession slightly favoring the Matadors in the game's first 22 minutes. A free kick deep in GCU's territory led Solorzano to attempt a shot right outside the top of the box. The senior midfielder from Palmdale connected on the free kick, a shot with his right foot that went past the Lopes' goalkeeper on the upper right side, giving CSUN an early 1-0 lead.

CSUN held onto the lead much into the first half, but GCU had a late push in the half's closing minutes, attempting five shots with just four minutes left to play before intermission. On the fifth attempt, the Lopes connected. A strike from Arnau Camaño evened the scoring in the 44th minute. Camaño's goal came after Godson Anim played a pass to the left side, where Jorge Lopez delivered a cross into the middle. Camaño finished with a one-touch shot for his fourth goal of the season. The goal sent both teams into the break tied 1-1.

SECOND HALF
CSUN came out of the break looking to take the lead right back. Solorzano had an attempt that missed high in the 45th minute. Seven minutes later, GCU's Anim countered with a shot on goal that was saved by Dorian Drucks on the low right side.

Cruzerio Cruz attempted another shot on goal on the low left side two minutes later, and Drucks saved that one as well. The Lopes had four shots on goal in the half.

In the 73rd minute, CSUN got close to retaking the lead. Jack Cameron had a strike in the box that went low-center on goal, but was saved by AJ Mather-Nash.

Two minutes later, CSUN followed with two more shots on goal, this time by Kayvon Mondared and Francisco Garibay, coming on the low left and low right sides, respectively. However, GCU saved both attempts.

The Lopes broke free in the 80th minute when Felix Oberwaditzer scored off an assist from João Gonçalinho. It was a low-right strike past the diving Drucks to make it 2-1 in favor of GCU.

CSUN had an opportunity to equalize in the 86th minute when Kayvon Monfared was awarded a penalty kick. Grand Canyon subbed in a new goalkeeper, Beltran Fernandez, who guessed the right side on Monfared attempt, stopping the shot from the senior forward, as the GCU benched roared in approval.

Time ran out on the Matadors, who didn't have another close attempt after that, as GCU held on with the 2-1 win.

GCU snaps its three game losing streak as the Lopes are now 3-5 on the year
That goal by Solorzano was his first of the season for him and the 11th of his career.
