Danny Griffin is in his first season as assistant coach to the men's basketball team.
An educator and coach, Griffin possesses a wealth of basketball experience, first as a player then as a coach and motivator.
Before joining CSUN, Griffin served as the director of player development with the men's basketball team at the University of Connecticut for the past three seasons. In addition to completing administrative responsibilities, Griffin helped the student-athletes on the team build a successful career after college. With Griffin on the staff, UConn put together a pair of 20-win seasons and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2015-16.Â
Prior to UConn, Griffin served as a head coach at Willowbrook Middle School in Compton from 2002-2005. He also worked as an assistant under head coach Willie West at Crenshaw High School from 1997-2002.Â
Outside of coaching, Griffin has worked as an educator with the Compton Unified School District for nearly two decades. Responsible for organizing and supervising the school's daily physical education program, Griffin has developed curriculum plans and educated students in the fundamentals of body movement necessary through athletic competition.Â
On the court, Griffin lettered two seasons at UNLV and spent the 1991-92 season playing under head coach Jerry Tarkanian. After playing for coach Rollie Massimino in 1992-93, Griffin completed his collegiate career at Rhode Island in 1993-94, playing for head coach Al Skinner and competing in a career-best 20 games.Â
Griffin earned his degree in speech communications at the University of Rhode Island.Â
