Joy McArthur enters her third season as an assistant coach and director of operations to the CSUN Track & Field teams in 2025-26.Â
McArthur joined the Matadors after a standout career competing with USC from 2018-22. She left holding the fifth-best hammer throw mark in school history.
McArthur earned second-team All-America honors during the 2022 outdoor season, recording a hammer throw toss of 214-8 (65.45m) at the NCAA's, good enough for 16th place. Earlier in the 2022 season, McArthur set a personal record in the hammer throw with a toss of 218-6 (66.61m), which entered the Trojan's all-time top-five best marks. She would finish fifth in the hammer throw at the Pac-12 Championships and 12th at the West Preliminary Rounds.
In 2021, McArthur won the hammer throw at the Beach invitational with a then personal record of 214-8 (65.43m). She eventually finished sixth in the hammer throw at the Pac-12 Championships, eighth at the West Preliminary and 20th at the NCAA Championships.
The shortened 2020 indoor season saw McArthur win the weight throw with a PR mark of 61-11.75 (18.89m), which moved her into second on USC's all-time list.
In 2019, McArthur placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships and eventually placed 21st at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Earlier in the season, she won the hammer throw at the Trojan Invitational with a mark of 201-2 (61.33m).
As a freshman, McArthur opened her outdoor career by winning the hammer throw at the Trojan Invitational with a mark of 197-1 (60.07m). She placed seventh in the event at the Pac-12 Championships.
Prior to her collegiate career, McArthur graduated from Dana Hills High School where she set the school's best hammer throw mark of 201-9 as a senior. She was named to the 2017 All-USA Girls First Team by USA Today. As a junior, she won the 2016 USATF Junior hammer throw title in just her fifth career meet in the discipline. She went on to place ninth at the 2016 IAAF U20 World Championships in Poland.
