LONG BEACH, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field's senior Brianna Kelpis finished sixth overall in the heptathlon at the 2025 Big West Multi-Events Championships on Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
Entering the day in sixth place, Kelpis finished with 4950 points to take sixth out of a 16-athlete field. Her heptathlon point total is a new personal best while she racked up three total team points for the CSUN women's team in the 2025 Big West Championships team leaderboard. Her performance marked the third time in four Big West Championship competitions she has scored team points for the Matadors in the heptathlon.
On Saturday, Kelpis competed in three events with her highest finish coming in the javelin where she was seventh with a throw of 34.29m (112-6) for 558 points. Kelpis earned the most points on the day in the long jump where she was eighth with a leap of 5.53m (18-1.75), capturing 709 points. In the final event of the meet, Kelpis set a PR in the 800m as she charted a time of 2:38.44 to finish 14th and earn 591 points.
ACCORDING TO COACH JUSTIN JOHNSON
"Bri competed extremely well this weekend. I'm very proud of how she battled through every event. This was a bittersweet end to her heptathlon career. While Bri was able to earn a personal best in the heptathlon, it's hard to imagine CSUN Track & Field without her. Luckily, we have one more week where Bri will come back and complete in two or three individual events at the Big West Championships."
UP NEXT
The CSUN men's and women's track & field teams will embark on week two of the 2025 Big West Championships next weekend. A full slate of competitions will take place from May 16-17.
