John Price was named Director of Women's Volleyball at CSUN in June of 2022. He oversees both the Matador indoor and beach volleyball programs.
The Matadors finished 9-23 overall and tied for ninth in the Big West with a 4-16 conference record. CSUN had a pair of student-athletes named to The Big West 2022 Women's Volleyball All-Conference Team as sophomore Carisa Barron earned honorable mention accolades and Breanna Mitchell was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Barron earned honorable mention recognition from the conference's 11 head coaches after leading the Matadors in assists with 624 (5.07 aps) while also ranking third in both kills (253) and digs (272) and fourth in blocks (57).  After posting her first career triple-double in CSUN's five-set win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 16, Barron added five more triple-doubles in 20 Big West matches. The only Big West women's volleyball player with multiple triple-doubles this season (UC Riverside's Tayler Hifo had one), Barron had five triples in her last 14 matches of the season.
Â
Price returned to the CSUN indoor program in 2021 where he served as an assistant on interim head coach Susie Terrusa's staff. Price previously as an assistant coach on Jeff Stork's women's volleyball coaching staff from 2012-2015. He also served one season as the head coach of the CSUN women's volleyball team in 1993, compiling a record of 12-17 as an NCAA Independent. Price's CSUN resume also includes 12 seasons as the head coach of the nationally-ranked Matador men's volleyball team from 1986-1997.
Â
After 14 seasons (1997-2010) as the head women's volleyball coach at CSU Bakersfield, Price joined Stork's staff in March of 2012 as an assistant coach at his alma mater. His coaching experience immediately proved to be a difference maker as he helped lead CSUN to a 46-26 (.639) overall record in his first three seasons on the bench. In 2013, CSUN posted 24 victories, the most by a Matador team since 1996, and reached the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament after defeating No. 12 Colorado State in the first round.Â
Â
Price made his presence felt in the San Fernando Valley as the head coach of the Matador men's volleyball team from 1986-1997. He amassed an overall record of 194-158 (.551) leading CSUN to a 23-10 record and a berth in the 1993 NCAA Championship match where the Matadors fell to UCLA. Price's 1991 CSUN team posted a 22-7 overall record and a No. 3 national ranking, the school's first at the Division I level.
Â
Price then moved on to CSU Bakersfield women's volleyball and remains the winningest coach in program history. He posted a career record of 232-169 (.579) over 14 seasons, leading the Roadrunners to a 28-4 overall record in his first season. Price was also at the helm of the CSUB program when the school made the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I status. Price's 2008 squad was the first Roadrunner team in any sport to post a winning record (18-15) in the school's Division I era.
Â
Since 2015, he has worked with various boys and girls club volleyball teams in both Valencia (Legacy Volleyball Club) and Bakersfield (Bakersfield Volleyball Club).
Â
"I'm really excited to be given the opportunity to dip my toes back into collegiate volleyball," said Price "I've been a head coach for almost 30 years and I think I bring a unique perspective to the coaching staff. I'll give Susie advice when she wants it and support whatever decisions she makes. I'm just looking forward to getting back into the gym and working with the team."
Â
A native of Pasadena, Calif., Price is a 1983 graduate of CSUN. He prepped at Crespi High School before playing collegiately at Pierce College and CSUN. His coaching career began at Thousand Oaks High School in 1982 where he led the Lancers to a pair of Marmonte League titles.Â
