After 14 seasons as the head women's volleyball coach at CSU Bakersfield, John Price returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach in March of 2012. He opens his fourth season working with Jeff Stork and Susie Terrusa on the Matador coaching staff in 2015.
Price's experience immediately proved to be a difference maker in his first three seasons on the bench as he helped lead CSUN to a 46-26Â (.639) overall record including a 24 wins in 2013, the most by a Matador team since 1996.Â
Price returned to San Fernando Valley where he was the head coach of the Matador men's volleyball team from 1986-1997, leading Northridge to the 1993 NCAA Championship match where the Matadors fell to UCLA. Price then moved on to coach the women's team at CSU Bakersfield for 14 seasons (1997-2010).
Price was the winningest coach in CSU Bakersfield's women's volleyball history. He amassed a career record of 232-169 (.579) over 14 seasons, leading the Roadrunners to a 28-4 overall record in his first season. Price was also at the helm of the CSUB program when the school made the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I status. Price's 2008 squad was the first Roadrunner team in any sport to post a winning record (18-15) in the school's Division I era. In 12 seasons with the Cal State Northridge men's team, Price won 194 matches, including a 22-7 record and a No. 3 national ranking in 1991, the school's first as the Division I level.
A native of Pasadena, Calif., Price is a 1983 graduate of CSUN. He prepped at Crespi High School before playing collegiately at Pierce College and Northridge. His coaching career began at Thousand Oaks High School in 1980 where he led the Lancers to Marmonte League titles in 1981 and 1982. Price also coached the Cal State Northridge women for one season (1993) compiling a record of 12-17 as an NCAA Independent.
