Alex Gomez

Alejandro "Alex" Gomez is in his first season as director of player development on CSUN Baseball staff in 2022-23. Gomez's duties with the Matadors this season include evaluating catchers, tech and analytics, video scouting and game planning, and assisting in other facets of the program.
Gomez spent the 2021 season as a Sports Science Intern for the San Diego Padres where he assisted technology and data implementation, biomechanics analysis, and various on-field duties. Prior to joining the Padres, Gomez spent the abbreviated 2020 season as an Assistant Coach for the Glendale Community College baseball program.
He spent the 2019 spring season as a Minor League and International Operations Intern with the Tampa Bay Rays. In the fall of 2019, he led stadium operations at MLB's prestigious Arizona Fall League for the Mesa Solar Sox. He would also spend the 2018 season with the Chicago White Sox as a Player Development Intern and was NL bullpen catcher for MLB's 2016 All Star Game and 2017 World Baseball Classic with Team Venezuela (semifinal round).
Gomez lettered at John F. Kennedy High School where he was selected twice to All-Conference honors before graduating in 2013. He began his collegiate career at California Lutheran University but transferred to Glendale Community College after completing his freshman season. In his sophomore season at GCC, Gomez was a Gold Glove catcher and All-Conference selection before transferring to play baseball at the University of San Diego.
Gomez graduated in 2017 with a degree in English and recently completed his M.A. in English Studies from Arizona State University in May of 2022.
