Matadors Fall To Lions 69-52

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (0-7) lost 69-52 to Loyola Marymount Tuesday evening at The Matadome. Junior Jasmine Erving finished with a team-high 15 points, her third-straight game in double figures, and sophomore Janelle Nomura added 12 points for the Matadors.

CSUN suffered yet another slow start, falling behind 17-2 with 14:33 left in the first half. What compounded the situation was foul problems, as the Matadors were whistled for seventh team foul at that same point in the first half. LMU finished 12-of-14 from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes.

In the second half, CSUN out-scored LMU, 29-27, but were out-rebounded 25-11. Those second-chance opportunities translated into 15 points for the Lions. LMU finished with 22 offensive rebounds, and out-rebounded CSUN, 47-24, for the game.

Erving finished 6-of-14 from the field, adding her first 3-pointer of the season, two blocks and a career-high three steals. Nomura dished out two assists, had her first block of the year and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Paige McIntyre did not miss a shot all night for Northridge, finishing with a career-high seven points on a 3-pointer and four free throws. She also set a new career best with three assists and two steals. Violet Alama added eight points, six rebounds and four assists.

Neither team shot the ball too well. CSUN finished at 37 percent (17-of-46) from the field compared to 38.3 percent (23-of-60) for LMU. Both teams sported identical lines of 12 assists and 19 turnovers and Northridge missed only one free throw all night.
Northridge hits the road for their next two games, traveling for contests at UTEP and New Mexico State. On Dec. 3, the Matadors face the Miners for a 7 p.m. (MT) tip off, followed two days later by a 2 p.m. (MT) game against New Mexico State.

CSUN's next home game will be on Dec. 8 when it hosts the University of Washington at 7 p.m.
